hey there wonderful students and guardians!

My name is Taylor Murrell. I am Hazelton Secondary School's Literacy Support and ELL Program teacher this year! This is my third year teaching here and I am so excited to be sharing in on this amazing adventure at HSS. I was born and raised in Central Alberta and I am the oldest of 8 children! My mom is Cambodian-Canadian and my dad is Irish-Canadian. I am an avid sports fan, lover of the outdoors, baker, and bookworm. I graduated from Burman University (Lacombe, Alberta) with my Bachelor of Education and B.A. English minor in April 2020. While there, I played three seasons of university basketball and one season of university volleyball.

I moved to Hazelton in August 2020 and married my husband that same month! Colton was born and raised in South Hazelton/Hagwilget, graduated from HSS, and is a proud Wet’suwet’en and Gitxsan native under the Laksilyu clan (Small Frog). He also teaches as our school's Physical Education and Career teacher!

In addition to the classes I will be teaching this year, I am this year's acting athletic director, Junior Girls volleyball and basketball coach, and G.L.O.W. Girls (Girls Leading Our World) teacher sponsor (our female education and empowerment group). I also work as our Northern Health teacher ambassador for the youth health services provided here at HSS!

I am so excited to get to know you a bit better throughout the year!

If you ever need to get in touch, please reach me by e-mail- taylor.murrell@cmsd.bc.ca, or call me at the school- 250-842-5214 (ext. 3114).
